What is an IB education?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. The organization offers to schools four programmes: the Diploma Programme, the Middle Years Programme the Primary Years Programme and the IB Career Related Certificate.

The IBDP Programme

  • An IB education at Eastwood College refers to the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which the school became authorized to offer in early 2018. As an IB World School, Eastwood College began implementing and providing IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) classes starting from the academic year 2018-2019.

    IB World Schools share a common philosophy committed to delivering high-quality international education that fosters the development of well-rounded, globally minded citizens. These individuals recognize their shared humanity and collective responsibility for the planet. At Eastwood College, we believe that by educating IB learners, we are contributing to building a better world, one child at a time.

  • The IB Diploma Programme encourages students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who appreciate that others, despite their differences, can also be right IB Learner Profile (Poster published by IBO).

    This balanced and academically challenging program includes rigorous assessments and is offered during the last two years of high school, with courses available at both Standard and High levels.

    To earn the IB diploma, students must succeed in six courses that cover a comprehensive range of educational areas, including Language A, Language B, Individuals & Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, and Visual Arts.

    The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) establishes unified examinations for all authorized IB World Schools. Among the six courses, students must choose three at the High Level (HL) and three at the Standard Level (SL).

    Additionally, the Core is a requirement for the Diploma, consisting of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE).

  • The IBDP journey can be demanding and challenging, necessitating commitment from both families and parental support. Positive reinforcement plays a crucial role in fostering a student's resilience and perseverance. Parents are strongly encouraged to support their children and instill a positive attitude towards this valuable educational experience that promotes personal growth.

  • Students who wish to apply for the IB program should have a solid grasp of academic subjects across various disciplines. The program is open to students who hold Lebanese nationality, meet our admission requirements, and fulfill certain conditions set by the Ministry of Education to ensure equivalence of the IB Diploma with the Lebanese Baccalaureate. Additionally, the program is also open to students who hold a second nationality other than Lebanese and meet our admission requirements.
